Details
Martin began offering the D-42 as a Standard Series model in 1996, around the same time they started the popular Vintage Series. Since it has Vintage Series appointments, like ivoroid binding, advanced X bracing, open-back tuners, etc. why wasn't this model labeled a D-42V in the Vintage Series? Only because Martin had never offered a D-42 model in the pre-WWII heyday of those vintage models! But the model code nitpicking didn't hurt its appeal, and this example has "the rumble and the glitter" that has made pearl-bordered Martin Dreadnoughts so popular. From the front it looks like a reissue of the early versions of the D-45, with snowflake fingerboard inlays, but at a fraction of the price.
This one has been played, there's light fret wear but few other signs of wear. The previous owner apparently used a capo at the 2nd fret often, as there's finish wear to the back of the neck in that spot, and light finish wear along the treble-side edge of the fretboard . Few other signs of use, just light pick-or-finger scuffs to the pickguard. Comes with the original Martin case.
