2004 Collings OM2HE Short Scale Acoustic Guitar Used
Gryphon sold this Collings OM new almost a decade ago to one of our local, and most careful, customers. It's been played, but you have to look carefully to tell. The frets show some minor fret wear, but they still have lots of life left in them. We've sold quite a few Collings OM models with the combination of an Engelmann spruce top and short string scale. Why? Because Engelmann is lighter and more transparent than Sitka spruce, and responds well to a lighter touch (one of the reasons it's used on many classical guitars). Also, the shorter scale means less string tension, so the result is an easier-to-play OM that still delivers a very full response. We ordered this guitar with a 1 11/16" nut which, when combined with the shorter scale, make for a playable guitar for pickers with smaller hands. This example has seen no modifications of any kind, and has never been more than a few miles from our store in Palo Alto. The finish has settled nicely into the pores of the wood, giving the surface a nice patina, and the tone is warm and balanced. Don't let the slightly shorter scale fool you, this OM is plenty loud when that's needed. Original case is equally clean.
