While not a showboat banjo in terms of inlay this Recording King RK-R35 has all the A-List essentials needed for great bluegrass tone: 3-ply maple shell, cast bronze 20-hole flathead tone ring, and a cast one-piece resonator flange. Geared tuners including the 5th peg and an excellent fret job means you get both great tone and playability for well under $1,000. This example hasn't seen much use, comes with a nice hardshell case
