The "Special" designation in the model code is because this is one of a special run of D-28 models made with Premium Grade tops given Martins VTS (torrefaction) treatment. The top bracing is forward-shifted, and tapered (not scalloped). Grain in the top this example is dead-on vertical, which is why you have to look closely to noticed the center seam between the book-matched halves. In other words, no run-out and no color shift between the left and right sides of the top.
While this D-28 has plenty of bass response, it also has the treble sparkle and mid-range clarity to balance the bass.
Condition is nearly unplayed, only the faintest signs of light playing wear and no fret wear.
