Fender's Custom Shop really nailed the color, feel and general vibe of a late 1950s white-guard Esquire, and thanks to the hand-wound bridge pickup the sound is equally convincing. There's light scuffing to the pickguard on this one, and some pinkie-nail squiggles to the top between the bridge and the control plate. Was this done by the original owner or was it part of Fender Custom Shop's "Time Capsule" faded natural finish? Does it matter? There's no fret wear, all of the paperwork and case candy that came with it is included.
The Vintage Custom ’59 Esquire features a select ash body and rift-sawn maple neck with a fat 1959 “D” profile, vintage compound-radius fingerboard (7.25”- 9.5”) and 21 medium vintage frets. It’s fitted with a single hand-wound ’58 Tele bridge pickup which is wired to a vintage Esquire control assembly with a three-position blade switch. Other features include a single-ply parchment pickguard, ’59 Esquire bridge assembly, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and single wing string tree with metal spacer. And with a weight of 6.66 lbs, we can’t blame you if you want to try some evil Heavy Metal licks on this one.
