C.1937 Dobro Model 37 Squareneck Resophonic Guitar Used
This 1937 Dobro Model 37 Squareneck is in excellent structural and cosmetic condition and is one of the cleanest examples Gryphon has ever offered. The top, sides and back are made from a light-colored hardwood, most likely birch, and are capped with a thin mahogany veneer with a subtle sunburst. The metal hardware is quite clean and untarnished. It was made around 1937, but as fans of these vintage resophonic guitars know, dating Dobros is more of an art than a science. There is no serial number, but because this guitar has a solid headstock, it was made between 1937, when the style became standard on the Model 37, and 1939, when the model was discontinued. It has a square rather than a tapered heel, which is the hallmark of guitars built in Dobro’s California workshop, but it’s more likely the body was built in Chicago, where pretty much all their post-1936 guitars were made. None of that really matters, though, because this is a great sounding Dobro in fine original condition, which is a hard thing to find. It comes with a recent vintage TKL case which is in equally clean condition.
