When you first look at an 0-size 12-string like this you can be forgiven for thinking "Oh, another cute little 12-string that's all chime but no bottom end." Be prepared for a surprise when you play 02H 12-fret, however, as thanks to the rosewood back and sides and Collings' light top bracing, this little 12-string delivers a lot more bass response than you'd expect, and is no slouch in the volume dept. either when you need it. What's the secret? For one thing a relatively small diameter soundboard like this is naturally stronger than a larger top under the higher tension all those additional strings. The 12-fret design puts the bridge in the middle of the soundboard, and the carefully engineered top bracing is light enough to really let it sing but without the top distortion common on bigger 12-strings that are lightly braced. Another plus, of course, is that while you have to climb over those big 12-strings this is one you can tuck under your arm almost like a parlor model. By using a capo you can get marvelously sweet harpsichord-like sounds, or you can get very convincing Barbecue Bob blues tones. That's quite a range, and this Collings 12-string can handle just about anything in between.
