Details
The Flanger is sort of the Forgotten Stompbox. It’s a modulation effect that is similar in some ways to a phase shifter or a chorus, but it has a vibe that's all its own. The flanger is one the first sonic effects and its unique tone was originally achieved by physically pushing the tape flange on a reel-to-reel tape recorder, which gave a wobbly, watery, shimmering sound. The Hammertone Flanger delivers that subtler effect from early days, along with more dramatic, rushing jet stream waves and subtler, swirling tendrils of modulation.
The Flanger features three knobs and two toggle switches. The Depth knob controls how deep the modulation goes and the Rate knob controls the speed of the modulation. The Manual knob is used to manually adjust the delay time, as you would on a genuine reel-to-reel machine, where the tap flanging effect was initially invented and used. The Res switch offers three options of increased resonance, or feedback, with each step. The Type switch adjusts the polarity of the feedback, offering more or fewer harmonics.
