The HF-3 tenor is our best-selling Kamaka uke, hands down, and this deluxe version adds a bit of visual pizzazz to a great sounding instrument. This HF-3 DI is the deluxe version which features colorful rope-pattern wood purfling around the top and soundhole, a style that recalls the higher-end ukuleles during the golden age of Hawaiian ukuleles in the 1920s. It also has a slotted headstock.
We think the tenor ukulele’s versatility is the reason for its popularity. It sounds great with the traditional "my dog has fleas" tuning but it also works well with the Low G tuning, as well. Thanks to the longer scale, the frets on a tenor uke are a little further apart, so complex chords are easier to finger as there's more room, making tenor uke the most popular switch for guitar players. It's simple, if you play any fretted instrument, or if you're just starting to, you'll find a use for a fine-sounding tenor like this one. The Kamaka tenor is the does-anything-and-does-it-well ukulele.
Like all new Kamaka instruments, the HF-3 DI Deluxe is impeccably crafted. The top, back and sides are nicely figured Hawaiian koa and they have a thin satin-sheen finish. This shows the koa grain and color to advantage and is yet another example of how the Kamaka crew keeps raising the bar and making their ukuleles even better. Includes a Kamaka hardshell case.
