If we’re talking about OM/000 sized Martins as an Auditorium, the M/0000 size can be referred to as a Grand Auditorium. Slightly larger in footprint but with the same depth, the 0000 sits comfortably between an OM and a dreadnought. We’ve always been big fans of this body style and missed having one around, so we decided to order this very cool 28-Style 0000 from Martin’s Custom Shop. It features a Sitka spruce top paired with a beautiful set of wild grain East Indian rosewood back and sides; and yes, it sounds as good as it looks. We spec’d it out with the GE Modified Low Oval neck and Performance Taper for a modern, familiar feel. The 24.9" scale makes it especially easy to play. If any Martin can be described as “piano-like,” this is it. It’s clear, with defined low-end, shimmering highs, and rich overtones. As with other M-series guitars, we opted for Grover 102-CV tuning machines to complete the style. This is a great option for someone who wants the comfort of a shallow body with the presence and volume of a larger guitar. It comes in a 28-style case.
