Our own Luke Doughty talks about one of his favorite effects pedals, the Nobels ODR-1X:
The Nobels ODR-1 is a classic pedal that has earned a permanent place on my pedalboard. It can function as a clean boost or a mid-level drive. The pedal cleans up nicely when rolling back your guitar volume and the tone stays pretty consistent while doing so (tube screamer-style pedals, for example, can get a bit nasally sounding when the guitar pickup volume is rolled back). The ODR-1 also is great for stacking with other drive or fuzz pedals for gain staging.
This pedal has been a favorite of many of the Nashville session guitarists for a long time, including Tom Bukovac who claims that he always keeps one on his board. The most recent incarnation is the ODR-1X which includes two new features: a variable bass cut knob which can help keep the bottom frequencies tighter; and a gain boost button which adds another gain stage to the settings on the pedal. Overall it is a great sounding pedal that is reliable and easy to dial in a variety of usable sounds. Nobels also offers the ODR-1 in a smaller format that is helpful if your pedalboard does not have much free space.
