Details
The Northfield Calhoun is inspired by flattop mandolins like the Gibson Army Navy models from around 1917 and the later Flatiron models from the 1980s. The Calhoun is made here in the US from very nice spruce and maple and while it is supposed to be an entry level mandolin, its rich tone and exceptional volume make it a great choice for discerning mandolin players looking for something from outside the bluegrass tradition. The Calhoun has no binding, purfling, or rosette, which help keep the cost down, but the build quality is top-notch and it is very playable.
