Details
Pisgah’s Laydie is their take on Vega’s Whyte Laydie, one of the most respected open-back banjo designs out there. It features the classic scalloped “Whyte Laydie” tone ring, made by hand and based on original specs. This example has an 11” pot, which adds some nice clarity and thump while keeping that signature low-end depth. Like the original, it has an unstained “Whyte” maple neck. Other features include a richlite fingerboard with an S-scoop frailing scoop, aged brass hardware, a “hawktail” tailpiece, and a simple star inlay on the vintage “fiddle-style” headstock. This one is the standard 26 3/16” scale length, which allows for a punchier, more vintage correct, tone, due to slightly higher string tension than you’d find on a short scale banjo. This is a lively, responsive banjo with plenty of volume, and it feels great in the hands. We’re big fans of Pisgah and what they do, using domestic hardwoods, making most of their own hardware in-house, and running a shop that’s 100% solar-powered. This banjo comes with a Pisgah branded Access padded gig bag.
