Details
Red Valley Mandolins are handcrafted in Boise, Idaho by James Wilson, who has been building mandolins and mandolin family instruments since 1996. We are very excited by his latest creation, the AMW-Nylon, a four-string nylon-string mandolin. (Gryphon regulars may remember the workshops with Radim Zenkl where he played a tenor ukulele set up for mandolin tuning.) The AMW-Nylon is specifically designed for nylon strings and is more lightly built than their steel stringed instruments. It’s a vibrant, resonant mandolin with lots of volume and great sustain, but a mellow, rounded tone that works well for jazz, classical or Celtic styles. It’s easy to play and comfortable on the hands. This example is made with a spruce top and cherry back and sides.
