With the Builder’s Edition Next Generation 814ce, Taylor took their flagship 814ce and added some very enticing features that make a good thing even better. First, the spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides have been upgraded to sinker redwood and Honduran rosewood, tonewood pairing traditionally reserved for Taylor’s 900 and Presentation Series. It also has a beveled armrest, which greatly increases the playing comfort of your strumming arm. Perhaps our favorite feature is the sculpted cutaway, which makes playing in the upper registers a breeze. It’s not only functional, it’s an elegant, and complex, feat of woodworking. Other refinements include a subtle adjustment in the taper of the body, chamfered edges, and Gotoh 510 tuners in antique gold, which offer a highly precise 21:1 gear ratio.
This guitar also has the new Next Generation features, which include have three bigs changes. It now has scalloped V-Class bracing under the hood. The new bracing increases the responsiveness which yields more warmth, power aid has an Action Control Neck which has easier-than-ever string height adjustability. And third, it’s fitted with Taylor’s new Claria pickup, which has been designed with the input from score of players. The Claria pairs an undersaddle piezo pickup with a new proprietary preamp to deliver easy, reliable amplified tone in any live performance setting.
