Details
This Fender Custom Shop 1956 is living proof that Leo Fender and Co. got the Strat right the first time through. The features found on the early Stratocasters have truly stood the test of time and despite nearly 70 years of guitar manufacturing between now and 1956, players still gravitate toward the undeniable genius of these early models. Most noticeable among these features is the stunning 2-tone sunburst finish and the maple neck, which on this particular guitar, has been expertly aged by the Fender custom shop to look and feel like a guitar that had been around for decades. The pickups, too, play tricks upon our sense of time, as Fender did a great job at authentically reproducing the sounds of an organically aged ‘50s era single-coil pickup set. In terms of feel, the 6-point tremolo and the 7.25” radiused “V” neck provide a vintage playing experience. The guitar does deviate from the past in a few crucial ways, which makes it more in-line with modern sensibilities. Notably, this guitar has bigger frets than what would be found on an original ’56. The taller frets make it a bit easier to bend and make it a little more efficient to press down the strings than the comparatively shallower frets of a vintage fender. Additionally, the 5-way pickup switch makes it easier to dial in positions 3 & 4.
Cosmetically, this guitar is in great condition. As with all relic instruments, it’s hard to tell what wear was done by Fender and what was done through play, but it is obvious that the guitar was well maintained. Structurally, the guitar is in perfect condition with little wear to the frets and hardware. The neck is in good working order, and the action is currently dialed in nice and low.
