Details
Gibson’s Gothic line, introduced in the late ’90s, featured some of their most popular models with a satin black finish and black hardware. This is the second iteration of the Gothic Explorer, updated with Gibson’s own 496R (neck) and 500T (bridge) ceramic magnet humbuckers, replacing the active EMG pickups found in the earlier version. Though this model appears geared toward metal and other heavier styles, its design draws inspiration from Gibson’s early history. Orville Gibson was one of the first builders to use a black finish on a larger scale, dating back to the 1890s, seen on harp guitars and mandolins from that era. The crescent moon and star inlay on the fingerboard is another nod to Orville’s original instruments, as is the portrait of Gibson himself on the back of the headstock. This guitar shows some wear from use over the years, mostly light dings in the finish and some buckle rash on the back, but remains in solid shape. It comes with a molded SKB flight case.
