Martin pulled out all the stops when they decided to make a short run of one of their rarest models of the 1920s. For years it was believed that only a single Style 28K guitar was made in the 000 size, but later another turned up. What follows is part of Martin's website intro for the model: "Based upon a pristine 1921 000-28K from the Martin Museum collection, this slotted head 12-fret is a completely faithful recreation of the original, featuring flamed Hawaiian koa top, back and sides, hide glue construction and a hand shaped neck. Martin’s new Vintage Tone System (VTS) is employed for the bracing."

The sound is impressive, and will make a believer out of those who are not normally swayed by koa-top guitars (this one has the warmth of tone koa soundboards often lack). This example is in excellent and fully original condition. All that keeps it from being perfect are a few small dings to the lacquer on the top, and some squiggles on the lower side near the waist from being used when the player had keys or change in their pocket. Comes with the white Calton case shown, a case that sells for around $1,500 today and offers the ultimate in flight-case protection.
