Details
This Martin D-28 was made in 1967, the same year as Paul McCartney’s. This is a great sounding guitar with a well-balanced bass to treble. It responds well to a flatpick but it also sounds sweet when you’re fingerpicking something like, say, Blackbird. It’s in excellent structural condition and very good cosmetic condition. There are a few minor scuffs and scrapes here and there, and one repaired back crack that runs along the center strip. There is one small crack in the top under the high E string, which was caused when the pickguard shrank. We released the pickguard from the top and reglued it.
This D-28 was made in early 1967, so it still has a tortoishell-colored pickguard. Martin switched to black acetate a few months after the guitar was built. It doesn't look like this guitar has had a neck rest but it has been refretted. Also, sometime in the past it looks like the fingerboard was planed, which was a common way of dealing with high action back in the 1970s. We replaced the bridge and the action is now very playable. The finish on the back of the neck is worn through the finish in spots between the first and third frets. Its original rosewood bridge plate is in good shape as are the original Grover Rotomatic tuning machines. Includes a recent vintage hardshell case.
